The Defence Officers Colony established on August 10, 1962 ,gazetted on September 5,1962, is an exclusive residential enclave approved by the director of town planning, Madras on November 18, 1966.It was created for the veterans of the Indian Army, Airforce and Navy. It is made up of independent bungalows in an area of 44.87 acres of land at Nandambakkam village in Saidapet Taluk, Chingleput dist.This was subdivided into 231 residential plots with land for parks ,schools and shops..

The defence officers colony Institute is very active and conducts regular functions and programmes . It includes a tennis court . The defence colony ladies club plays a very significant role on all occasions and is renowned for its spirit and enthusiasm.
